5 tips to get your dream job.
A few months ago, I was promoted to Sales Manager at WePay. In addition to my “day job” (selling), I’ve now got meetings with my two bosses (Tyler and Bill) every Monday and meetings with my team throughout the week.
I also spend 10-15 hours a week on interviewing. While I’m far from an expert interviewer, these are some short tips I’d recommend if you really want...
WePay Journey - Part 4
After I joined WePay as an unpaid intern and got my first sale in June (see parts 1, 2 & 3 of my WePay journey), Rich and Bill thought it would be a good idea for me to begin cold calling other groups to see if we can acquire users through the phone. At the time, our only tool was “billing” so we thought it would be a perfect fit for all organizations collecting dues.
One of our...

WePay Journey - Part 3
After I joined WePay as an unpaid intern (see parts 1 & 2 of my WePay journey), I began coming into WePay a few times a week to help out. Although my hours required for my internship program were 10 hours/week, I found myself at WePay HQ more than 30 hours/week.
At first, I was doing facebook ad buys for multiple verticals (primarily fraternities and sororities) with a little bit of...

So, when are you going back to school?
I get this question quite a bit since I left San Jose State my senior year to work at WePay. The most common criticism - “once you leave, it’s even harder to come back.” However, I look at my situation like a Doyle 10-2 - I’ve got a great hand and I’m bullish on it.
The double edged sword with start-up companies is that you have a limited amount of funding....

7 things I Learned by "Dealing with the Dealer"
I recently just purchased my first car. This was a completely new experience for me since I’ve been driving the same hand-me-down for almost 7 years. After my purchase this past Sunday, I learned quite a bit about “dealing with the dealer.” Hopefully you can use some of this to your advantage the next time you’re searching for a car.
1. They’ll try to set a floor. You...
new car
So, I bought a car today. To be specific, I bought a 2009 Nissan Altima in black (like this one).
Bill (my boss and CEO of WePay) accompanied me on my car-buying journey today since he’s a vet of the sleazy world known as “the dealership…”
The first dealership we went to was Fremont Honda (an Autowest dealership). I had a terrible experience but gave me a starting point for pricing and how to...

Guy on plane behind me: Hi! Is anyone sitting there?
Girl on plane behind me: Nope, it's all yours.
Guy: Great! Man I've had a tough day. My son just called me crying because he almost broke up with his fiance.
Girl: Oh god, why?! Did they already break up or they almost broke up?
Guy: They didn't break up, luckily. They're having intimacy issues and she just doesn't accept him for who he is.
Girl: Oh...
WePay Journey - Part 2
After I got my initial email from Rich (see part 1 of my WePay Journey), Rich and I had set up lunch. We met at Jing Jing (the first of many terrible dining experiences) and talked start-ups, funding, the WePay story and my role in ES.
At the time, I had just begun my first week in the e-lab program held by my entrepreneurship professor Steve Bennet. Prof. Bennet holds an internship course each...

WePay Journey – Part 1
A lot of people ask how I got a full-time offer at WePay, a start-up company in Palo Alto that makes it easy for people to collect money from other people. So I figured I’d break it down write it as a series of steps. When I was given the reins of the Entrepreneurial Society in January 2010 (another post), I got a random email from Rich about WePay. I’ll let the emails explain the rest.
